On the shelf in my bedroom, there is a plant that looks like the result of someone uprooting a couple blades of grass from her lawn, punching it into her computer monitor, and changing the font setting from 11 point to 72 point. Protruding out of the soil are 5 green blades draped with a few strands that look like the brown coverings of an un-shucked head of corn. The blades thin and split and then suddenly flatten out, transforming from stalks into leaves as they make their way up to points, some of which are browning and curving down.
Near the top, the leaves are made of compacted parallel organic strings reminiscent of the bottom of a record and it looks like you could tear one cleanly down the center. They curve out in all directions although the plant has begun to tilt in one overall direction towards to wall.
The plant lives in a glazed ceramic white pot with a subtle indented brick-like pattern. Inside the outer container is an additional black plastic layer housing the rich brown soil that is starting to break into chunks from repeated watering and drying.
