Yesterday Elon Musk’s company Neuralink livestreamed a demo of their brain implant project, demonstrating live visualizations of brain activity in pigs.
I’m not a neuroscientist and I’m interested to hear what someone with those qualifications thought of the presentation, but to me it seems like this could revolutionize some areas of medicine and help us get a better picture of the brain through large-scale data collection.
Elon’s companies are showcasing technological progress that has the potential to improve everyday people’s lives in the way we would historically expect from government institutions like DARPA or NASA.
I will say I don’t like the ethics of implanting experimental devices into live animals. At least the company is upfront about their testing procedures.
